SNG & ICM Pressure Strategy

Sit & Go tournaments are ICM battlegrounds. Understanding ICM is the single most important skill for SNG profit.

SNG Structure

Standard 6-max or 9-max SNGs pay the top 2-3 finishers. This top-heavy payout creates massive ICM pressure.

**Play tighter than cash games**: ICM reduces the value of marginal hands

**Avoid coin flips**: Breaking even in chips often means losing money in equity

**Position still matters**: Use position to steal pots without showdown

**Increase aggression**: Blinds are rising and players are ICM-aware

**Exploit tight players**: Many SNG regulars fold too much under ICM pressure

**Build stack for push/fold**: Aim to have 10-15bb for the push/fold phase

**Use Nash push/fold charts**: These are mathematically solved for SNG payouts

**ICM-adjusted shoving**: Shove tighter than chip-EV Nash when ICM pressure is high

**Calling ranges**: Call much tighter than you shove, especially when you have a mid-stack

**Push/fold is dominant**: At shallow depths, the game simplifies to push/fold

**Exploit tendencies**: Adjust from Nash based on opponent's calling frequency

**Aggression wins**: In HU SNGs, the more aggressive player usually wins
