Position Concepts (EP/MP/CO/BTN/SB/BB)
Position Concepts
Position is one of the most important concepts in poker. It determines how much information you have when making decisions.
The Positions
Why Position Matters
Acting last gives you more information. You see what your opponents do before you act. This information advantage translates directly into profit. Studies show the BTN is the most profitable seat, while the blinds are the least profitable.
Early Position Strategy
Play tight ranges. Focus on premium hands: AA-TT, AK-AQ, and suited connectors like JTs. You will be out of position for the entire hand, so only play hands that play well postflop.
Late Position Strategy
Play wider ranges. On the BTN, you can open hands like 72o profitably in some spots. Use your positional advantage to steal blinds, float flops, and apply pressure on later streets.
