Equity Realization (EQR)

Equity Realization (EQR)

Equity realization measures how much of your raw equity you actually convert into winnings.

What Is EQR?

Your raw equity is the probability of winning if all five community cards are dealt and there is no further betting. But poker has betting rounds, and your actual winnings depend on how well you play those rounds.

EQR = Actual EV / Raw Equity

  • EQR > 1: You realize more than your raw equity (great situation)
  • EQR = 1: You realize exactly your equity
  • EQR < 1: You realize less than your equity (common for out-of-position players)

  • Factors Affecting EQR

  • **Position**: In-position hands realize more equity
  • **Playability**: Hands like suited connectors realize more equity than offsuit hands
  • **Skill edge**: Better players realize more equity through superior decision-making
  • **Stack depth**: Deeper stacks generally mean more equity realization for the in-position player

  • Practical Application

When deciding whether to call, consider not just your raw equity but your EQR. A hand with 35% raw equity but 120% EQR is a better call than a hand with 40% equity but 80% EQR.
