Identifying & Exploiting Opponent Leaks

Identifying & Exploiting Opponent Leaks

While GTO provides a strong baseline, exploiting opponent tendencies is where the real money is made.

Common Opponent Leaks

  • **Folding too much**: Exploit by bluffing more frequently
  • **Calling too much**: Exploit by value betting wider and bluffing less
  • **Over-folding to 3-bets**: Exploit by 3-betting wider as a bluff
  • **C-betting too frequently**: Exploit by check-raising more as a bluff
  • **Playing too predictably**: Exploit by adjusting to their specific patterns

  • How to Identify Leaks

  • **Track statistics**: VPIP, PFR, 3-bet%, fold to 3-bet%, c-bet%, fold to c-bet%
  • **Take notes**: Record specific hands and patterns
  • **Use population tendencies**: Start with default assumptions and adjust per player

  • Exploitation vs Balance

  • **Against unknown players**: Use a balanced GTO approach
  • **Against recreational players**: Exploit heavily — they won't adjust
  • **Against strong regulars**: Stay closer to GTO with small targeted exploits

  • Warning

When you deviate from GTO to exploit, you become exploitable yourself. Only exploit when confident the opponent won't adjust.
