Flotante y doble cañón

Floating & Double Barreling

These are two essential postflop weapons that every intermediate player must master.

Floating

Floating means calling a c-bet on the flop with the intention of taking the pot away on a later street.

  • **When to float**: On boards where the preflop caller has range advantage (e.g., when you defend BB and flop comes 7-6-5)
  • **Best float spots**: In position, against predictable opponents who give up on the turn
  • **Risks**: You invest chips with a weak hand hoping to win without showdown

  • Double Barreling

A double barrel is betting the turn after c-betting the flop. It puts maximum pressure on your opponent's medium-strength hands.

  • **Good double barrel cards**: Overcards, cards that complete draws, cards that pair the board
  • **Bad double barrel cards**: Cards that improve opponent's calling range more than yours
  • **Frequency**: GTO solvers recommend double barreling roughly 40-50% of the time after c-betting

  • Combining Both Strategies

A balanced player uses both floating and double barreling. This makes them unpredictable and difficult to play against. The key is to mix your frequencies so opponents cannot exploit you.
